Avery 6059+ Error Codes
Track: Scanner Care & Troubleshooting
Overview
The Avery Dennison 6059+ shows numeric error codes when the printer hits a problem it cannot work around. The same number always means the same thing, so once you know your code you can go straight to the fix.
This page is a quick-reference table. For the deeper "why is my label blank?" or "how do I clean the print head?" steps, see the Printer Troubleshooting lesson.
The black mark sensor sits under the label roll, in the middle of the print path. Open the supply cover, take out the labels, then gently push down the label deflector to see it. Many errors below ask you to clean or recalibrate this sensor — this is where to look.
Error Code Categories
The 6059+ groups error numbers into ranges by what part of the printer is unhappy:
- 600s — Print imaging (rare)
- 700s — Supply, sensor, and printhead problems (most common)
- 900s and above — Hard errors. The printer needs service.
- 1050 — Black mark calibration failed. The sensor or motor may need replacement.
Common Error Codes
Twelve codes cover almost every error a parts department will see. Find your code, do the quick fix, and you are back to printing.
| Code | What It Means | Quick Fix |
|---|---|---|
| 703 | Calibration saw mixed-size black marks. | Load a fresh approved label roll. Recalibrate. |
| 704 | No black mark seen in range, or out of labels. | Check the roll. Reload labels from the bottom of the roll, adhesive down. |
| 706 | Motor jammed or supply error. | Power off. Open cover, push down the deflector, clear any jam. Reload labels. |
| 750 | Printhead is too hot. | Power off. Wait 5 to 10 minutes for the printhead to cool. Power back on. |
| 751 | Did not sense a black mark when expected. Labels may be jammed. | Power off. Check for a jam. Reload labels feeding from the bottom. Recalibrate. |
| 752 | Black mark was in the wrong place. | Recalibrate. If it returns, try a fresh approved roll. |
| 753 | Black mark was too long. | Labels may be defective. Try a fresh approved roll. |
| 755 | Printhead (supply cover) is open. | Close the supply cover firmly until it clicks. |
| 756 | Out of labels, or the sensor needs cleaning. | Reload labels. Wipe the black mark sensor with a DRY cotton swab. |
| 758 | Check supply. Likely a jam or a broken on-demand sensor. | Power off. Clear any jam. If it returns, call support. |
| 762 | Battery is low. | Swap in a charged battery or place the scanner on the charger. |
| 768 | Printhead has too many bad dots, or it is not connected. | Power off and reseat the printhead. If it returns, the printhead needs replacement. |
From the ScanIt Parts login screen tap Settings > Printer Setting > Printer Setup > Supply > Calibrate Black Mark Sensor. Tap it ONCE only. It is normal for one or two labels to print blank during the procedure.
Hard Errors (Codes Above 900)
Codes in the 900s and above are hard errors. The printer needs service. Examples documented by Avery Dennison:
- 900 — RAM test failure
- 906 — Power failure
- 930, 931, 932 — Flash or RAM write errors
- 1050 — Black mark calibration failed — sensor or motor may need replacement
- 1999 — Print engine crashed
What to do:
- Power the scanner off, wait 15 seconds, and power it back on. A few of these (910 warm start, 911 virgin restart) clear on their own.
- If the error returns, write down the exact code and the scanner's Device ID.
- Open a repair ticket from the dashboard support menu (the ? icon at sip.ipsdev.com). The IPS repair team handles hard-error returns.
Restarting the scanner repeatedly on a 900-series error will not fix the underlying problem. Open a repair ticket so the scanner can be swapped or repaired before it fails completely.
Where to Look First
- Chat assistant — Open the chat widget on sip.ipsdev.com or scanitparts.com and ask "What does Error 751 mean?" (use whichever number you have). The assistant pulls the dedicated knowledge base article for that exact code.
- Printable PDF — The 6059 Plus Print Error Guide includes the 12 most common codes on page 2. Keep it at the parts counter.
- Phone support — Call 810-695-9332 with the code number and your scanner Device ID.
