How Stage-It Works

What Stage-It Does

A part gets picked. It does not go straight on the truck. Someone sets it down on a shelf, in a bin, or in a lane, and there it sits until its truck is ready. Stage-It records where the picker set it down.

The scan is two steps. Scan the part. Scan the staging area you are putting it in. Now the spot is saved, and anyone can look it up instead of walking the back of the shop.

Stage-It arrived with scanner version 127 in September 2026, along with a Staged Parts report on the website.

Setting Stage-It Up

Four steps, and you do them in this order. All of it is on the website, except the last sign-in.

Step 1: Build Your Staging Areas

Go to PickIt → Settings → Staging Areas. These are the shelves, bins and lanes your pickers drop parts onto. Nothing can be staged until at least one exists.

To add one area, type a name and press Enter, or click Add.

To add a whole run of them at once, use Add Several. It asks for four things:

• Prefix — the word or letter every name starts with.
• How many — how many areas to create.
• Start at — the first number in the run.
• Print labels after creating — tick this and the labels come out as soon as the areas are made.

If a name in the run already exists, that one is skipped. You do not get a duplicate and you do not get an error.

Step 2: Print the Area Labels

Print a label for every area and put it where the picker can reach it. A picker who can scan the area never has to type it, and a scanned area is never spelled wrong.

There are two ways to print:

• Print label on a single row.
• Tick the rows you want, then use Print labels in the bulk bar.

Step 3: Decide Your Staging Rules

The Staging Rules card sits at the top of the same page. There are two rules:

• Require picking before staging — when this is off, staging a part also marks it picked.
• Require packing before staging — when this is off, staging a part also marks it packed.

Turn a rule on when you want the earlier step done first and want the scanner to say so. Turn it off when you would rather the staging scan carry that step for you.

Step 4: Grant the Stage-It Permission

Go to PickIt → Settings → Drivers and open Section Access. Turn on Stage-It for everyone who needs it.

Managing Staging Areas Later

Shelves move and lanes get renamed. The Staging Areas page keeps up:

• Rename — click the name and edit it right there in the row.
• Duplicate — copy an area you already have instead of starting over.
• Delete — remove one row, or tick several and remove them together.
• Search — the search box filters the list by name.

Staging on the Scanner

Open Stage-It from the scanner menu. It sits in the Picking group, between Pack-It and Load-It, which is where it falls in the day too.

Then it is two scans:

1. Scan what you are staging. A part, a Pick-It label, or a container — any of the three works.
2. Scan the staging area. That is the spot you are setting it down in. The staging is saved.

Two things behave a little differently:

• A part on several invoices opens a list so you can pick the invoice you mean.
• A container scan stages every piece still in it, in one go. You do not scan the parts inside one at a time.

Fixing and Moving Staged Items

Nothing is stuck once it is staged.

• Tap a staged part to change how many pieces are in that area, or scan another area to move them.
• Tap a staged container to see its parts and pieces, move it to another area, or unstage it.

When the Scanner Turns a Scan Down

With the staging rules on, the scanner stops a part that has skipped a step. You get a plain message that says what to do:

• “Pick those parts before staging them.”
• “Pack Part # 12345 before staging it.”

The fix is the message. Pick it or pack it, then stage it. You find out at the shelf, not at the truck.

Loading the Truck

Open Load-It and go to the Invoices tab. It shows which staging area each part and each container is sitting in.

The loader reads the area off the screen and walks to it. No hunting, and no asking the picker where they put it.

The Staged Parts Report

On the website, go to PickIt → Reports → Staged Parts. It is in the Picking Activity group.

Filter

The report has an All Staging Areas filter, so you can look at the whole floor or narrow down to one shelf.

The Figures

• Parts Staged and Pieces Staged
• Invoices
• Staging Areas
• Stagers
• Still Waiting
• Avg Wait and Longest Wait
• Staged Cost and Staged Sale

The Staging Areas Breakdown

Below the figures is a Staging Areas breakdown. It lists where parts were placed, busiest first, so you can see which shelves carry the load and which ones barely get used.

Columns

The columns include Staging Area, Pieces Staged, Staged By, and Staged At.

If nothing matches, the report says No staged parts found.

Staging on Your Invoice Screens

Invoice screens pick up staging too. Each one gains a Staged column, and the event timeline gains a Staged stage alongside the others. You can follow one invoice from picked, to packed, to staged, without opening the report.

Troubleshooting

Stage-It Is Not on the Scanner Menu

Almost always the permission. Check Section Access under PickIt → Settings → Drivers, turn Stage-It on, and have that user sign out of the scanner and sign back in.

If the permission is already on, check the scanner version. Stage-It arrived in version 127, so a scanner still on an older version will not show it.

The Report Is Empty

Two reasons. Either nothing was staged in the date range you are looking at, or no staging areas have been set up yet. Open PickIt → Settings → Staging Areas and see whether there is anything in the list.

Putting It to Work

1. Walk the floor and write down the shelves, bins and lanes you already use.
2. Create them under PickIt → Settings → Staging Areas, using Add Several for any numbered run.
3. Print the labels and put one on every spot.
4. Set the two staging rules the way your department works.
5. Turn on the Stage-It permission, and have those users sign out and back in.
6. Run the Staged Parts report and look at Still Waiting before the last truck goes out.
