Stocking Parts to a Bin
What Stocking Does
Stocking is the put-away step. A part comes in, someone carries it to the shelf, and it goes in a bin. Stocking records that. You scan the part, you scan the bin you are putting it in, and the put-away is saved.
The check happens right there in your hand. If you scan a bin the part does not belong in, the scanner turns it down. The part does not get put away in the wrong place, and you find out while you are still standing at the shelf.
Stocking arrived with scanner version 126 in August 2026, along with a Stocking report on the website.
Do not see Stocking on your scanner? Check two things. Stocking is a permission. Everyone who had an account when it was released already has it, but a user added since then needs it turned on. And after the permission is added, that user must sign out of the scanner and sign back in. The Stocking section does not appear until the next sign-in.
The Stocking Flow
Three steps, and you repeat them for every part.
- Open Stocking on the scanner. Tap it from the main menu.
- Scan the part. The part card comes up so you can see where the part is supposed to go.
- Scan the bin you are putting it in. The put-away is recorded. A bin the part does not belong in is turned down.
A turned-down scan is not a wasted scan. Every refused scan is saved too. It is a flag that the bin on file for that part may be wrong. See the Stocking report below for how to pull them all up at once.
What the Part Card Shows
After you scan the part, the card on the scanner shows three things:
- Stock to — the bins you may stock this part into.
- Also in — other bins the part sits in.
- Stocked in — where it has been stocked.
That is enough to tell you where the part goes before you walk to a shelf.
Scanner Settings
Stocking has its own Settings tab on the scanner with two toggles:
- Quantity — turn this on when you want to record how many pieces you put away. The flow becomes: scan the part, scan the bin, then key how many pieces you put away.
- Auto-Print — turn this on to print automatically as you stock.
Leave Quantity off if you only care about where a part went, not how many. It is one less keystroke per part.
Website Setup: Bin 2 and Bin 3
On the ScanIt Parts website, go to Settings → Scanning. There are two switches:
- Allow Stocking to Bin 2
- Allow Stocking to Bin 3
Both start turned on. Turn one off and the scanner refuses that bin and records a refused scan.
When to turn one off. If your department wants every part going back to its primary bin only, switch off Bin 2 and Bin 3. Anyone who tries to stock to an overflow bin is turned down at the shelf, and you get a refused scan on the report showing who tried it and where.
The Stocking Report
On the website, go to Reports → Stocking. It shows every part stocked, who stocked it, the bin they scanned, and the bins the part has on file.
Filters
- Scanned-date range

- Refused Scans Only
- Manually Entered Parts Only
Columns
Part #, Old Part #, Make, Description, Scanned Bin, Bin Locations, Result, Qty, User, and Scanned At.
The report exports to PDF and Excel.
Refused Scans Only is the one to run first. It is the quick way to find parts whose bin on file is wrong. Your people already found the problem on the floor. This filter hands you the list.
Reports live on the website, not on the scanner. The scanner is where the work goes in. The Stocking report, the filters, and the exports are all on the web dashboard.
Watching Stocking From the Dashboard
The dashboard counts stocking scans for today, this week, and month to date. Each number links straight into the Stocking report, so you can go from a count to the parts behind it in one click.
Putting It to Work
- Add the Stocking permission to anyone hired since the release, and have them sign out and back in.
- Decide whether overflow bins are allowed, and set the Bin 2 and Bin 3 switches under Settings → Scanning to match.
- Turn the Quantity toggle on only if you need piece counts.
- Run Refused Scans Only once a week and fix the bins on file that keep getting turned down.
